The Shisa, creatures that are half lion and half dog, are a symbol of protection in Japanese tradition. These mythical beings guard homes from evil spirits and misfortune. Typically found sitting on either side of doorways or within homes across Japan, one Shisa has its mouth open while the other keeps its mouth closed. According to legend, the roaring lion drives away evil, while the silent one keeps family secrets. Originating from Okinawa, the southernmost islands of Japan, Shisa are considered the region’s signature souvenir, traditionally handmade there. The figurines are in perfect condition, free from chips, scratches, or cracks.
